After the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 is passed, the festival has to apply for a license for the first time, and attendance is limited to 30,000.
Bands include: Curtis Mayfield, Fun Boy Three, The Beat, UB40, Marillion, Melanie, A Certain Ratio, The Chieftains, Incantation, King Sunny Ade.
Radio Avalon - the festival's own radio station - broadcasts for the first time.
CND are again the main beneficiaries, with local charities also benefiting to the tune of £3000.
