This will be the 7th Wickerman festival, which has grown in popularity, and received an attendance of close to 18,000 in 2007.
Sited on 120 acres of isolated farmland, near Dundrennan, South West Scotland, in deepest Galloway, the festival welcomes families, and features 2 main stages, as well as dance tents, Acoustic & Reggae tents, campsite, trade stalls, alternative area, bars, and food stalls.
Over 100 acts and two of the headliners - Gary Numan (Fri), and KT Tunstall (Sat) are already confirmed, including Dub Pistols featuring Terry Hall, Hugh Cornwell, Dodgy, x-Press 2, Digitalis, The Cuban Brothers, Sham 69, Damien Dempsey, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, De Rosa, Fangs, Zoey Van Goey, Broken Records, Beatnic Prestige, Alabama 3, Sonic Boom Six, Tim Sheridan, The Ads, Action Group, Jesus H. Foxx, Twisted Nerve, The Eddies, and Neville Staple, with Dream Machine playing a post midnight closing slot. For the line-up details, stage and day splits to date please see here.
Also confirmed are DJ sets from three Hacienda legends - Peter Hook, Bez, and Graeme Park. Annie Nightingale, Xpress-2 and Mr C vs Tim Sheridan. More acts will be confirmed over the coming months.
Tickets are on sale here, priced at £75 for the two days, or £50 for just the Saturday, and campervans costing an extra £20. Children aged 12 years and under are free.
Wickerman organisers are encouraging the expanding Polish community in South West Scotland. The organisers have been successful in gaining a grant from the Council to help fund the project which will include bands from Poland in the line up.
Wickerman is also trying to break the world record for the most number of people with Mohican style haircuts in one place at one time. Scheduled to take place at 12 noon on Saturday the 26th July, the attempt will provide a colourful display of punk rock and Beckham inspired haircuts. Verification and guidelines have been sought from the Guinness World Record Management Team which describes a Mohican haircut as 'A hairstyle which is notably longer in the middle section.' Mohican prizes are being awarded in several categories including most jaunty, debonair and majestic.
The Wickerman features a Children's Area, Dumfries Museum's Activity Tent, a Drumming Workshop, mountain bike skills workshops with the Forestry Commission, Cosmic Circles Fire Dancers, a funfair for kids, chainsaw juggling, outdoor cinema, children's circus and the climax of the weekend's happening... the burning of a 25 feet high Wickerman on Saturday midnight.
The Wickerman will have both an 'Animalia' and 'Billy-Bob redneck' theme for fancy dress this year.
