Towersey Village Festival 2008

The dates for 2008 are confirmed as 21st - 25th August.

This major folk arts festival, returning for its 44th year, features a professional programme of folk and roots music, ceilidhs, international dance teams, family entertainers, workshops and a Children's Festival which incorporates entertainment, music, puppetry, circus skills and craft workshops.

Concert venues at the festival include a Concert Tent in a corner of the main site, an Arts Centre Marquee, and an Open Stage, also on the main site; as well as St Catherines Church and the village hall, all playing host to many well-known artists. The Commitments will be opening Festival Dance House on Thursday night

Other artists confirmed include Bellowhead, Show of Hands, Lunasa, Martin Simpson & Andy Cutting, Salsa Celtica, Blowzabella, Kathryn Tickell Band, Chris Wood, Whapweasel, Breabach, Faustus, The Commitments, The Omega 3, Park Bench Social Club, Glorystrokes, crucible, The Woodpecker Band, The Gloworms, Leon Rosselson, English Contra Dance Band, Last Orders, Ruth Notman, Mick Ryan & Pete Harris, Steamchicken, Chinewrde Morris, Jackie Oates, Pig Dyke Molly, and Hand to Mouth Theatre. The Hurly Burly Cabaret Bus will also add comedy, mime and a deranged set of cover songs.

Workshops
Towersey offers an array of dance workshops including Breton, Scandinavian, Contra, Rapper, French Bourrees, Austrian, Fandango, Irish Step, Molly, Border Morris, North West Morris, Longsword and Appalachian. There are also workshops in Harmony Singing, Global Vocals and festival-goers can even learn how to Sing Like a Bloke! Music workshops range from Afro Brazilian Dance, Austrian and Hungarian music to American Traditional music and English Song as well as Concertina classes and Slow and Steady Music sessions. The Festival also offers Yoga sessions, lantern-making and circus skills workshops.

New to the Showground this year will be Rockhopper. Built into a vintage 1960s silver airstream caravan, Rockhopper is a roomy state-of-the-art recording studio which offers the chance to lay down and take home top quality, professional recordings of music. The Rockhopper will be stationed be on the Showground throughout the Festival so will be accessible to everyone.

There are three festival camp sites in the village. The main site is on the playing field, the same field as the Concert, Dance and Children’s event stages. There are mains toilets, water, washing facilities and showers. Vehicle parking is not allowed on site. The principal camping use is for families and is a quieter area. Site One will also be home to gourmet crepes, fresh coffee, stone-baked pizzas, authentic Mexican, deep-fried potato wedges, hot doughnuts and more.
Site 2 is only a few hundred yards away and will accommodate cars and caravans etc. It has water, mains and re-circulating toilets and all night security. The sites are flat and suitable for disabled access.
There is a third site, more particularly suited to revellers.

Camp sites are for season ticket holders only and will open at noon on Thursday. Please do not arrive in Towersey before then.

There is also a large FREE car park for day visitors, flat with access for the disabled although said to be a bit rough underfoot.
