Szeged Open-Air Festival 2010

Audiences of up to 4000 enjoy opera, ballet, musicals and folk dance performed on a huge stage erected in front of the cathedral of Szeged in Hungary. The festival will start early in 2010 on Saturday 22nd May and continue until Sunday 25th July 2010.

Line-up

The festival offers open-air free concerts at night and the exhibition on the history of the festival are among the enticing and fascinating additional events. The theatre performances include world premieres and the internationally ranked performances staged within the festival. Several tens of thousands of guests come to enjoy the events on Dome Square and the Újszeged Open-Air Stage each year, many from abroad.

The festival will open on Saturday 22nd May with a concert organised by daily newspaper Délmagyarország to mark the paper's hundredth anniversary. Other highlights on the festival programme include a premiere of a production of My Fair Lady, which will be performed five times from 2nd July. Other premieres on the programme include one of the rock musical Hair on 13th August and a production of Bizet's Carmen on 30th July.

An international dance festival takes place each year within the framework of the open-air festival will end with a production of Dózsa, involving the participation of all of the festival's participants, on the 16th and 17th July. The piece will be directed by Tamás Szarka and Zoltán Zsuráfszky. Fans of classic operetta can enjoy a gala performance on 24th July.

Tickets

Ticket prices have not yet been confirmed, and are not yet on sale, there is a separate cost for each individual event.

Getting there

There are good air links to Hungary, and the city itself is within an hour's drive of Budapest on good quality motorway.

Accommodation

Festival goers will need to find themselves accommodation whilst the festival is on as there is no camping facilities at the event.
