Sleepy Sun talk to eFestivalsTen Years of All Tomorrow's Parties interviewWednesday 23rd December 2009eFestivals were given the chance to talk to San Francisco five-piece ‘Sleepy Sun’ at the Ten Years of ATP festival. I caught up with the band, who released their debut album ‘Embrace’ this year to great critical acclaim, for a quick chat, on a much needed couple of days off. Hi guys, how’s things going for you? Good, we’ve got a couple of days off here at the festival, which is the first we’ve had off in a while, so it means we get the chance to hang out and see some bands. That’s always good, there’s some great bands playing this weekend... Definitely, OM are on now, and Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks were fantastic last night... That’s one of the great things about All Tomorrow’s Parties, they book a lot of bands that many festivals won’t. What, if anything, is it that you like about the festival? Everything...it’s just fantastic, the whole set up of it, the people, and like we were saying the bands, it’s comes together for a great weekend...and plus there’s no camping, which is only a good thing! Definitely, camping, especially in December is a horrible thought. So after a busy year this year, with continuous touring etc..., what does 2010 hold for you? Well, we’ve got a new record coming out early next year, and a single will precede that, and then more touring and hopefully we’ll get asked to play ATP again, which would be great. That’s a very quick turn around... Yeah, well we didn’t want to hang around with the record, we were really happy with the new songs that were coming and so we went into the studio with Colin Stewart just outside of Vancouver, in a pretty secluded place, and got the record done basically. That’s really cool, and you worked with Colin Stewart on the previous record, so have you found someone who you think you’ll continually work with? Absolutely, we work well together, have similar work patterns etc... and the results have always been good. We would like to look at other possibilities in the future, to see what a new person can offer to our sound, but for the time being, we’re more than happy. Excellent, well thank you for your time, enjoy the rest of your weekend, and hopefully we’ll catch up again either after the record comes out or at another ATP. Definitely, thank you. Thank you to both Sleepy Sun for their time and Matt from In-House Press for arranging this interview. interview by Anthony Hetherington |
